Sunday Serenity: Kindness Amidst the Chaos

I think it goes without saying that the entire world is feeling quite exhausted dealing with this less-than stellar year. I feel as if we are in a “Twilight Zone” state at the moment.

There is so much going on at once that it is extremely difficult to discern what ‘normal’ feels like. I think that is to be expected, especially when we don’t know when/how/what ‘normal’ will look like in the future.

And yet, there is something that I’d like to think has remained in most people: kindness. At the basic core of who we really are we can still find the common thread of kindness.

We talk about kindness as something we share with others; and that is a very good thing indeed. But what about for ourselves? To be kind to oneself is extremely important, especially right now.

If you think about it, we are bombarded day in and day out with so much negativity, yet we don’t give pause to counter it with something good.

My Mum has taught me that the Universe abhors a vacuum. If we can get rid of the negative junk we see/hear from this year, that creates a space to be filled. As a wee challenge, try filling it with something (and it can be a very small thing) that shows kindness for yourself.

Most of you know I’m extremely blessed to live across the street from Lake Michigan. When the thoughts of this year become too much to think about, I stare at the lake and positive thoughts immediately come to mind. The lake doesn’t know we are enduring COVID-19; it is still ‘normal’. The Canada Geese who fly by on their way back to my home and native land are still doing their thing.

Trite examples, perhaps. But it gives me an indication that I’m showing kindness to myself by introducing good thoughts and feelings into my awareness.

Oh, and there’s always the reminder of ‘humor in my hood’:

I hope you will show yourselves some kindness to lighten the day!

You know, I love what you said here and I could not agree more, Cher! We are creating our future with what we set our mind to. If we only focus on right now, we will stay in the situations we are right now. We need to let our thoughts fly to where we want to be. That is the place we are creating for a new present to be!

A soft and gentle post. Thank you, Cher.
Nature is so soothing to me also. I sit and watch the wild life in my field, small woods, small pond, watch the vegetation slowly change, watch the twilight coming earlier each day.

This is such an important reminder. We are often very hard on ourselves. I will try to remind myself this week to pause and show myself some kindness. Thanks Cher! ❀️

It’s horrible that so many people think kindness is weakness or liberal bs … we do need a kindness revolution

I agree, JT. We really do, don’t we? I heard a great quote from Robert Herjavec (Shark Tank). He said, “Don’t mistake my kindness as weakness.” I couldn’t agree more! Cher xo

There is a big shift going in humanity right now and to put kindness or a smile to a person walking down the street goes a long way. You are adding positive instead of negative. Your thoughts are your reality and for myself I choose my thoughts carefully although easier said than done. Ok Cher I am going to be kind to you. Cut a demo tape and give it to me and I will send it off. lol I too have a sense of humor.

I love everything you said, Joseph! You are absolutely right. A little bit of kindness does go a long way. And more than ever it is needed everywhere. I love how you describe choosing your thoughts carefully; and yet, as you said, it sure is easier said than done. Alright then, kind sir! I’ll do it! πŸ˜‰ Thank you, Joseph; you are a gem! Cher xo

I absolutely agree. Kindness is the answer. I’d add gratitude for everything we are, do and have, which is so much.

Absolutely, Luccia! I have a “Gratitude Jar” where I put notes of everything I’m grateful for! It is so important, and yes, you are totally right! Cher xo
