My 8 Oddities: Or Are They Normal Behaviors?

[courtesy:  http://www.wstam.com%5D

Do you ever wonder if some of the little things you do are shared by others?  I started to think about a few things that I do and wondered if anyone else partakes in these peculiarities too!

So here is a list of 8 behaviors/actions that I have utterly no idea as to whether you do them too:

  1. I never take the first item off a store shelf (or in the refrigerator section); I take the one behind it or even the one after (you know, perhaps someone opened the box or container of the first item and tampered with it);
  2. Sometimes when I am at the library or a book store, I’ll randomly choose any book and open it to a page and read the first thing I see (quite synchronistic at times, believe it or not);
  3. When I sneeze and no one else is around, out loud I say, “Bless you”;
  4. I always put my coat on with the left sleeve first, NEVER the right sleeve first or it just feels strange (I’m left-handed; does that make a difference in my behavior? LOL);
  5. When I finish reading a book, I close it, and out loud give it my two-second commentary (“Well, that wasn’t worth the overdue book charge at the library, or “Wow, soooo cool”);
  6. I keep various sizes of jeans in my closet because I just never know when I’ll lose a few pounds or gain (several);
  7. I don’t know how to properly shuffle a deck of cards, so if I happen to be in a card game (rarely) I always do the ‘polite’ thing and let everyone else shuffle (“No, I insist, you are a terrific shuffler”); and
  8. I wave at every single dog that passes me by on the street (sometimes to the chagrin of their pet parent) and add, “Hi puppy!”.

Okay, please tell me that you too have some interesting ‘oddities’ you say or do on a regular basis! I’d love to know that I’m not the only one who partakes in the peculiar!

    Thank you, Cher; I too grab from behind the front row of food, They should rotate inventory so the freshest is in the back. I say hi to dogs before humans but will smile at them. Some of these I do not find odd, they’re merely prudent.

    Hey, Cher, these are interesting. Of these, I do the dog-call thing (same with cats).

    Others on my own list (which would be just a start): always pick up the stray penny (for luck), always gently push the clanger on one of my wind chimes just outside my house in the morning and night (and make a silent blessing), always hold the door for a lady and men as well if they’re close behind (old fashioned), worry about whether the iron, stove, etc. are on (childhood hangover from parents), save nuts, bolts, screws, etc. (never know when that will come in handy) . . . .

      Hey, Brett, Oh do you? I’m glad I am not the only one who acknowledges our furry friends! What a wonderful list, Brett! The door holding is always a welcome and appreciated gesture! I too do this much to the (often) surprise of the recipients! I absolutely love the clanging of the wind chimes! What a wonderful thing to do. The iron, stove, etc. are also notables for me (the coffee pot is my biggest worry when rushing out the door, despite the fact I know it has an auto shut-off mechanism. Thank you for such a terrific list, Brett! Cher xo

    Good list Cher – I sometimes depending on what the product looks like, won’t take the first item off the shelf either. My right arm goes in first, can shuffle cards decent and I wave at my neighbors dogs upstairs and say hi puppy sometimes!

      Thank you, John! So I’m not the only one that does the shelf checking! LOL Better shuffler than me I’m sure! And you must be right-handed! Awh, I know the puppies appreciate it! Cher xo

        Yes I am a righty! Most things are built for righties aren’t they, how wrong. Even when purchasing beer, you have to watch out for the dented cans.

        They really are, John! When I was a little one my parents had to get a neighbor to help me learn to tie my shoes (no one in my family is left-handed)! Ah, good tip! 😉 xo

        I never thought of that! Everything is geared to the right it seems. My grammy taught me to tie laces win say… 1966 or 1968? Something like that. Why do you omit the letter U in your spelling Cher? It must feel odd to you. I try to add that U in where it seems appropriate. That letter never should have been removed!

        Yes, everything really is geared towards right-handed folks! Oh did she? Well when I was in college (University) there were only a few desks in some of my classes that were made for the lefties! I always tried to grab one of those because it made writing a lot easier! Oh John, that is such a great question! *LOL* Once I moved to Chicago I changed my spelling, as I figured the Americans would correct my “u” in many words! It was odd for a long time, but now it’s odd for me to see the “u” when I’m back in Canada! Hahahaha xo

        There never was any reason for removing that letter. Leave the King’s English alone! I’m staying in today, just going for walks as it’s 65 just now. 70’s this week. The temperatures always being to climb around February one.

    Good list, Cher. I think, that all of us have such habits, even if we don’t think so much about them in our daily life.
    I use to check the dates, when I’m shopping and sort out, which packet I wish to buy, when I look at the different packets. I do place the things nice after, but many workers in the shops look a lot, while I’m doing this. I pay, so I decide what to buy.

      LOL Well I know exactly what you mean, Irene! I tend to often to the same thing, and even when I’m buying clothes! If I see my size I’ll go through all the other things of the same size to make sure there aren’t any flaws. Then I place them back neatly as you do too! Thank you, Irene! Cher xo

    I love weird quirks! I wave at dogs too, especially Jamie the Westie next door. I know more dogs names than their owners names near me!
    I kiss old things that have served me well and thank them before I put them in the bin.
    I count the steps on the train I take to the toilet in case I forget my seat on the way back.
    I am always picking up litter, especially if there is a bin nearby.
    Oh so many things really!

    I had one owner “correct” me when I said hi puppy to his old dog. I told him I call every sweet dog a puppy. And yeah I never grab the first anything off the shelf 😉

    I can say I do #1 too. I do that with clothes too – take the size I need towards the back of the rack. For some reason my voice turns into cutesy when around babies, puppies and kitties. We are so NOT ALONE!!! Happy Day – Enjoy 🙂
