Here’s another photo from my helicopter experience over downtown Chicago. As I looked around and recognized some of these buildings, I really do love seeing the entire building ‘all at once’, as opposed to the usual up close to one particular area. Do you see the tall, looming dark building on the left? That’s the Willis Tower, or what is still known to many as the, “Sears Tower”. It hasn’t been the Sears Tower for quite some time; however, like anything that becomes iconic in a city, the ‘old’ name sticks.
Some have also referred to this building as the, “Lego Building” for reasons you can see by looking at the block on block architecture. Now, if they could take the parts and move them around, that would be a real Lego structure, don’t you think? *grin*
It’ll always be the Sears Tower to those of us who remember when it was built, just like the department store with the big clock at Randolph and State will always be Marshall Field’s and the store at 1 South State with the Louis Sullivan exterior will be Carson’s.
