Sunday Sunrise: Time Marches On!

Today is the first day of “Daylight Savings Time”.  I’m not sure if this is a phenomenon that takes place only in North America or not.  In the Fall we turn our clocks back one hour on the first Sunday in November, while we move the clocks forward one hour the second Sunday in March.

I am certainly no expert when it comes to this happening; however, there have been proponents and opponents of it for years.  Some say it helps people psychologically when a perceived ‘extra hour’ of sunlight occurs, making the evening’s light longer.  Conversely, the morning’s light is an hour later.

When I was a child, we learned a sentence to remember the two annual time changes:  “Spring ahead, and Fall back”.  Funny what sticks with the ol’ brain, isn’t it?

I’m always confused by this whole time shift, to be honest.  This morning I woke up completely unaware as to what time it was.  I peeked out of the window and saw this beautiful sunrise so I began to snap away!

I takes me a few days to get adjusted to the time-change.  What about in your part of the world? Do you have the ‘pleasure’ of this occurrence?  In my mind, why can’t we just keep the clocks the same all year? Your ideas are more than welcome, please!

I don’t mind going back to daylight saving time. With inflation, the hour will be the only thing I’ve saved all year.

I’m with you. Leave the clocks alone. Another example of our need to tamper with the natural way.

Leave the clocks alone! This is nonsense, needs to end. Serves no purpose. Not having any issue with it today though.

I like what a Native Chief said of the practice, is like cutting off part of a rug and sewing it onto the other end and thinking it is longer

We have it in Australia but one state, Queensland doesn’t partake which makes things horribly confusing for those of us with family there. Personally I like Daylight Savings and am not looking forward to going back to Winter time shortly.

Well that must make things very confusing! Yes, I imagine it is bewildering, isn’t it? When does Winter time begin? Cher xo

Well I wish you hadn’t asked 😉 but hubby tells me it’s the end of March. It must be soon ‘cos the mornings are getting awfully dark.

They have it in Britain too, only they call it British summer time. Summer? We’ve been on summer time for a week and it’s 44 degrees today. The main trouble I have with the whole thing is explaining it to the dogs and the cat, who want their meals when they always get their meals. They absolutely refuse to reset their watches.

Hahahaha Oh yes, I’m sure the fur people were very confused and a tad bit stubborn in refusing to reset their watches, Ellen! LOL Cher xo

We decided to stay on summer time in North Cyprus through the winter months. It balances out the light in the morning and dark at night, we got fed up with the long, dark evenings in winter. There’s an added reason too – our five dogs don’t know about winter time and still woke us at the same time, so we decided to go with the flow. It’s worked out well, including the fact that we didn’t have to bother with the clocks when daylight saving started here. I remember when I was a teenager going out with a lad who woke me when I’d forgotten the time change I told my mum the next week that I’d dumped and she nodded unsurprised: “Knew his time was limited when he disturbed your beauty sleep!” (I’m an owl!).

Well I’m glad about staying on the summer time, Mo! As for the lad, he should have known better about your owl status! *biggest grin*!! Cher xo
