“The Bean” From a Different Vantage Point

So here we are again, looking at, “The Bean” in downtown Chicago.  This must be one of the most popular, iconic public spots in all of Chicago.  I took this photo whilst strolling down Michigan Avenue.  To some, this might be the ‘front’ of the Bean; however, most photos are taken from the ‘back’, um, I mean the front……..Tomato, Tomahto, anyone?

I posted this pic last week.  Technically, this is the front of the Bean; I guess it is due to the extra space that surrounds it, perfect for photo ops (*grin*).  But the ‘back’ of the Bean faces Michigan Avenue, and you can’t get up close and personal from that vantage point.

Why don’t I just leave it at, “behold the Bean”.

Yes, that’s what I will say.  Look everyone, it’s the Bean, and no matter which angle you look at it, you’ll know what I mean!

Nice! There must be some serious support under the bean. 😌

What does the bean do? Is there something inside it?

Hi Susanne! That is a great question. Besides being public art, “The Bean” is a large, ‘bent’ mirror which not only shows the reflection of those looking at it, but a lot of Chicago’s downtown buildings. Think of it as a wide-angle mirror. People take tons of pics with their own reflections but with a large background shown as well. It’s really quite something to see. The artist actually named it, “Cloudgate”, and apparently he loathes that people call it, “The Bean” 🙂 Cher xo

Cher, neat post! I’ve photographed the “Chicago bean” before and I never thought about which was front or back. :O
