This is yet another reason why I adore Chicago! The creativity and passion for art and design runs amok in our city! Take this interesting sculpture for example. I find the more I simply roam and explore (keeping my eyes open for the unusual and amazing finds) the more I seem to ‘see’. I talked about this in a recent post; we simply need to be aware of our surroundings in order to experience that which is often in front of us. And yet, I daresay it would be rather difficult to miss this ‘metal man’.
What shall we call him? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Call it Welded Man as he is all welds. Kinda scary looking yet such a fun abstract. Great photo!!
Yeay! I love it! Welded Man! I felt the same way, John; kinda scary but cool at the same time!! Thanks, John! Cher xo
Hope. He clearly thinks his leafy constructed wings will hold him up when he jumps off the cliff.
I love it!! How creative! Thank you for that my dear! I love the leafy wings!! Cher xo
Wonderful sculpture, he is Icarus to me!
That is exactly what I thought he should be called when I saw him, Hilary!! Thank you! Cher xo
I thought Icarus, too… where is the statue?
It is at an art center near Bridgeport, John (near 35th St.) Cher xo
Near US Cellular, or west of the viaduct at Shields, closer to Halsted? Lifelong Sox fan, lived in Back of the Yards (47th and Ashland) the first ten years we were married…
It’s even further west of Halstead; at Racine and 35th (there are a lot of manufacturing plants there – Pepsi for one). Do you know where I am referring to, John? Cher xo
Sure do. Racine is between Halsted and Ashland. I think Spiegel is around there. They were a mail-order catalog place…
Oh I didn’t know about the catalog place!!
It’s their warehouse. Looks the same as all the other warehouses in that area. Spiegel is all catalog sales. I had a friend who worked there.
That is very cool!!
Modern piece of art… a striking sculpture, Cher. It sure catches one’s attention! Love, Iris 😉
Oh it sure does, doesn’t it, Iris? Rather intimidating at first; however, once I took a good look at ‘him’, that subsided! I love his leafy wings!! Thank you, Iris! Love, Cher xo
Yes, it’s all very creative and artistic. Every detail considered! Great photo of it, Cher. Thanks for interesting post. Have a lovely weekend! <3 Iris
It certainly is! Why thank you, Iris! And to you as well my dear!! Cher xo
That is what I love about city life…the art discovered as one roams the city streets….I found the same in Bellingham. I do miss that out here in the cornfields.
Oh I know exactly what you mean, Johann!! But I must tell you that there is something so serene and special about the cornfields! I am very drawn to the quiet and silence; sometimes the city can get a bit overwhelming, but when I’m in the mood for a walkabout, I do find it a treasure trove of unique places and spaces!! Cher xo
Self-made, metal angel.
<3 <3 Love it my fellow Chicagoan!! Cher xo
Love the metal man – like a fallen angel…
Isn’t he cool, Helen? Cher xo
He definitely is an amazing sculpture.
Isn’t it cool, dear Max? I think so too! Cher xo
Another vote for (metal) Icarus…
*LOL* I think that’s his name, Joanne!! Cher xo
Excellent!
Hi Brett!! Thank you so much! Cher xo
And here I am interrupting your comment section, Cher, but I located an eye witness story by a soldier on the Queen Mary that you might like to read…..

I love it!!! Thank you!! Cher xo
WOW!!…that’s a real crowd pleaser!!! Sort of a cross between Edward Scissor-hands with a bad hair-doo!! Great sculpture though.
*LOL* A crowd pleaser indeed my dear!! That’s for sure!!! Cher xo
Wow.. what an amazing statue.. you post so many interesting things Cher.. Lots of Love your way x

Silver Angel. =)
Ah, what a lovely name; thank you! Cher xo
He might prefer that to Metal Man, lol.
I think so too!! xoxo
I’m sorry, Cher. I was focused on the small comment box that opened up to the right of my screen and didn’t see you had in fact called him Metal Man. I would never slam a blogger. Was just being funny, but I bombed that one! Please forgive.
Diana
Hi my dear Diana! Actually, I had invited readers to name this artistic sculpture so your name was wonderful!!! I am so glad you mentioned it because I love it!! With big hugs, Cher xo
