I think sometimes as we are surrounded by the familiar, we tend to lose sight of things right in front of us. Take the above picture, for example. This is a phenomenal piece of architecture that sits atop the roof of a building that I walk past all the time. And yet, it wasn’t until today that I really took the time to notice its detail and how incredible it is.
I am wondering if it was built at least 100 years ago. Note the “portal-style” windows. Isn’t that amazing? The perfectly blue sky is a lovely backdrop to this structural piece of Chicago’s architectural history! Keep on the lookout for ‘the extra-ordinary’ right in your midst!!
Those portal windows grabbed me straight away, great eye Cher! 🙂

Why thank you, John! But why didn’t I pay more attention to it before? *LOL* Ah, perhaps too much to look at here in CHItown!! 😉 Cher xo

This has happened to me too, I suppose since the human eye can see only one specific area at a time and the brain ‘fills in the rest’ via peripheral vision, these items/details could be passed by.

That is precisely it, John! Very well put! I think the brain can only process so much information at a time. Okay, I feel better now knowing I’m not the only one! 😉 Cher xo P.S. Thanks, John!!

That is why tourists mostly know a country better than the people living in it… lol! That is a beautiful piece of architecture you discovered, Cher!

Beautiful. I love old building. I always imagine when they are being built step by step with no cranes etc,. I also wonder if it is a house who and how many family has lived in there or if it was an office building, the workers how worked there. I would love to peek out of those portals to see the view and just to see what you can view. All in all I’m a architectural buff from when I was a nipper if you can use that word still lol, I love old buildings. Thanks for sharing.

I love old buildings too! I think this building is a restaurant (or some kind of community building); I will have to investigate further. Oh yes, wouldn’t it be interesting to see inside! I agree with you. You most certainly can use that word!!! *biggest grin* Thank you my dear! Cher xo

You’re welcome and since I don’t live in Chicago you may approach the manager they have and ask if you can go to the tower to take pictures. Tell him you have a nosey friend in Canada that would love to see what it looks like from the portal windows. Come on Cher be gutsy. lol

Once my love and I were walking about town and we stopped to notice how attractive this 1920s-era building was. An elderly woman came out, watching us suspiciously, and asked if we needed help with anything. We tried assuring her we just thought the building looked nice, and she looked back at it and agreed, but she gave the impression of wanting just to see what we were up to. We moved on.

I love the old style architecture! The old slate tiled rooftops, lovely Lime Stone. I think I might choose this topic for a blog I feel would be quite interesting here in my little town, we have 10 churches in a population of 8,000 people!! Must’ve been a lot of sinners here, way back when (lol) !!

Wow, that’s a lot of churches for a tiny town!! *LOL* I would love to read your post about it! I am sure others will as well! I’ll keep an eye out for it, dearie! Thank you! Cher xo
