To start the week I thought it would be a wonderful motivator to share our fair Chicagoland from afar; space far, to be precise.
A good friend from Canada was visiting us here in Chicago during the past few days. We went to the Adler Planetarium (I’ll be writing a post about the Adler sometime soon) which inspired me to write a post about Chicago from a different perspective.
The majestic and magical wonder of seeing one’s city from ‘out there in space’ is an extraordinarily humbling experience, wouldn’t you agree?

The thoughts I feel when I look at these photos all come back to the same thing: togetherness. When we see ourselves from the eyes of an astronaut, it should remind us that we are all riding on the planet collectively; to me, this is an important reminder of perspective. Perhaps it takes an astronaut with an ability to allow us to see the world as one in order for us to grasp its importance.

Space photo’s of Earth are always Amazing!.. and the light pollution we can see in evidence of how much we burn 🙂 . What always strikes me is that your streets really are in blocks… here in the UK our roads twist and turn.. where as your cities are in straight lines… and you can literally go around the block :-).. Great picture..

Regarding the picture he took, Colonel Chris Hadfield noted that, “Chicago, a bright spot on the tip of Lake Michigan, glowing through the clouds, which highlights the city’s incomparable grid system.” *LOL* Yes, we can literally go around the block! *grin* Love it! I remember feeling the same way when visiting the Space Museum at the Smithsonian and watching a documentary on Space travel. Those views of earth have changed our perceptions of everything. 🙂

Cher, you are so right! Our perspectives sometimes get “cloudy” for want of a better word. Sometimes clouds do get in the way, even from space, right? But here on Earth, we can, many times, see as clearly as one can see from outer space. It all has to do with perspectives, again.
