Weirdest Sunrise I Have Ever Seen!

**Update:  For an excellent description of what this weather phenomenon is all about, please see The Weather Network’s Meteorologist Chris Murphy’s explanation under the comments in this post (John’s comment).  Thank you, Chris!

This has to be the most bizarre sunrise I have ever witnessed! This morning over Lake Michigan the sky was blanketed in clouds with a bit of fog.  Then suddenly I saw a tiny bit of orange light. It was as if there was a thin blanket over it, making it appear ‘milky’ in color.

All of a sudden it became brighter, then lo and behold, the sun sheepishly beamed onto the horizon. No sunny skies, no puffy clouds, just grey as far as I could see.

This is the very first time I’ve seen the sunrise when the entire sky was grey.  Have you ever witnessed this type of sunrise before?  As quickly as it arrived, it faded behind the clouds.

I apologize that the photo isn’t clearer, but it was a difficult shot to catch!

I’m putting my order in with Mother Nature to draw back the grey curtains and let the sunshine roll in!

I hope Monday is a marvelous day for you!
