Sunday Serenity: Two Canada Geese a Laying!

What a fantastic thing to see!  Last week I was at an outdoor mall just outside of Chicago.  As I rounded the corner of a building I saw a sign that read something like:  “Do Not Disturb:  Canada Geese are Nesting.” (I can’t quite recall the exact wording, but you get the ‘message’).

I tried to be extra quiet as I took the above photo.  It was fascinating to see my ‘fellow Canadians’ nesting at this location; however, I wondered why on earth they chose this particular walkway.  They didn’t seem to be bothered in the least by the passersby.  Neither one of them even gave me a side-glance; I guess you could say that their intense focus on the job at hand was the priority.

I read that a female Canada Goose does not eat, drink, or bathe while the eggs are incubating.

This makes me wonder if the goslings are eligible for dual citizenship (American and Canadian)?  Or, at the very least, a special discount card at the mall for being born smack-dab in the middle of it all!  *grin*

If they are snowbirds, they can stay in the US for 182 days. 🙂
