Friday File: Sunrise Halo

Talk about a picture-perfect sunrise this morning! When I was taking this shot I didn’t see the ‘halo’ created above the sun.  When I looked at it through my camera I was so pleased to see it!

The weather here in Chicago has been what can only be called a roller-coaster experience. The temperatures are virtually changing drastically from day-to-day.  A few days ago it was cold enough to freeze the surface of Lake Michigan.  The next day the ice began to break a bit, and people ditched their hats and scarves for seemingly ‘warmer’ temperatures.

And here we are, back on the weather ‘ride’ whereby today the temperatures have dipped again so the ice has returned. If the saying, “I don’t know what to wear” rings a bell, it is most certainly LOUD and CLEAR here this past week.

I’m going to call my clothing, “weatherwear” this week.  How about you; what’s going on in the world of weather where you are?

I watch The Weather Channel with a keen eye on Michigan weather. You folks are getting pounded by really weird weather up there this year, such wild fluctuations. It’s been raining and raining and… here. Finally stopped last night but so cold! Easily the coldest, wettest winter here in six years. Summer come back!

Hi John! What the heck is going on with this weather? We are and I’ve heard that “El Nino” is making things mighty rainy on the west coast. What’s it supposed to be like this coming week, John? Cher xo

It’s been rather miserable here actually, extreme winds, a day and a half of rain… NO sunshine! Highs only in the 40’s the few days Cher. Summer needs to come back real soon. At least there’s zero snow in the valley.

That must seem so surreal to you, John. I know Vegas gets rain sometimes, but this is extreme for your area, isn’t it? Well that’s good about the lack of snow, eh? I’m sure you will be glad to have the heat back!! Cher xo

Oh yes, those 90’s and 100+ temps are wonderful! It’s an odd winter with this kind of weather here but spring will return. I actually did hear but not see a humming bird today and yesterday. They are plentiful here.

I love dry heat but 100 is a wee bit too hot for this Canadian! Ah did you? I love hummingbirds! Have you any pic of them, John?

I’ve tried Cher, they are so damn hard to capture Cher. Just too fast for me. If I see one in my backyard in the future I’ll give it another try. You really do acclimate to the heat, but do always! Keep water handy. Poor tourists coming here in the summer may not be aware of how dangerous our summer heat really is.

I did get a picture of a hummingbird a few years ago and posted it on the blog. But it really wasn’t that great of a pic. The cute little thing was getting some lunch from a few flowers located in a large ornamental container. So cute! Yes, I’m sure the tourists get a wee bit thrown off (especially those Canucks!) 😉

How long have we been following each other? Cripes! My mother adored these birds, had several feeders around the property containing her own mix of water. And of course the usual feed for the rest of the crowd. Happy birds, happy mother!

LOL It’s been a while! Ah, did she? That’s so lovely, John. And the pictures you’ve posted of your home in Michigan make me think there were a lot of happy birdies along with happy Mother! Cher xo

Thanks. We miss her every day. I have two photos of her doing her thing, in my kitchen. Hope to cook as well as her some day. ❤️

Winter here in Texas has been even more of a “roller-coaster” than usual, ranging from some icing with snow flurries to around 80 within days! Not good for the health, I don’t think. Your photo from today is absolutely lovely, Cher.

Has it, Becky? Oh my goodness, that’s for sure! Ah, thank you so much! The ice on the lake’s surface is quite striking when the sun beams light it up a bit. It sure does sound like an even bigger roller coaster in Texas!! I should say, “Stay warm, Becky, stay cool too!” Cher xo

Exactly! You, too, as it won’t be all the long before you have much warmer weather, as well.
