Dear Mss I heard today that outside Chicago houses are from stone, but often from wood. I follow the painter Chuck BLACK. He paints wooden cabins near wood, where bears live. I did not understand it. Because I see from Chicago very high buildings.
Is it maybe possible to send me photos from the surrounding of Chicago. And I got this week a message that Chicago so old is. I do not know how many years. Something of 200 years. In the Netherlands we do not know how many years a town is. Do you celebrate this birthday and how ?
I like to know more of America. Yours truly Annie van Es.

Hi Annie! Yes, Chicago’s birthday was on March 4th when it turned 181 years old! Here is a little post I wrote about it: https://wp.me/p4doQv-1E0 I think that because cities and towns are much younger than those found in Europe it seems we like to celebrate how old they are here in North America. But I don’t think there are big celebrations unless it is a special birthday, like 100 years, 200 years, etc. Chuck Black’s art is absolutely beautiful! Yes, we have both large cities and small towns. We also have lots and lot of what we call, “country” areas, which to us in North America means, “farming areas, woods (like you said, where the bears live). I don’t get to see areas surrounding Chicago very often, but when I do I will take some photos for you! The United States and Canada are extremely large so there are lots of cities and lots of ‘country’ areas too. Thank you so much for your comments, Annie! I promise to try and get some photos for you! Thank you, Susie! Yes, it’s on the top floor of the Harold Washington Library (9th floor?). It’s such a lovely space! I only seem to be there on cloudy days, though! LOL When you visit, please let me know what you think! Cher xo
