Chicago River Haunted Tour: Chilling & Chilly!

As my birthday is so close to Halloween, I’ve always been partial to ghost stories, paranormal findings, and mysteries.

For my birthday I went on a, ‘haunted river cruise’ down the Chicago River.  With a ‘ghostly guide’ providing stories of famous (or ‘infamous – depending on your view!) hauntings in Chicago, we meandered our way past some of the amazing architecture that flank  the Chicago River.

It was interesting and intriguing hearing about some of the, ‘behind the scenes’ of Chicago’s haunted past.  I must say that being Canadian came in quite handy with my ability to deal with cold weather on this tour!  It was already quite chilly to begin with, but when the sharp, ‘crisp’ air from the river wafts over you, at night, in an open boat, why, that experience in and of itself was a tad bit frightening!

I have been on the Chicago River many, many times for architectural boat tours; however, gliding down the river at night provided a completely different experience of seeing our magnificent sky scrapers lighting the way. Do you notice the unusual color of the sky? That added such, ‘ambiance’ (for lack of a better word) to the evening.

Oh, I must show you what the gargantuan, “Merchandise Mart” looks like at night (and a lovely orange tone for Halloween):

I’ll be posting some more pictures of my, ‘frosty spooky finds’ this week!

This river is so different to our canals which run through Manchester and only come across parts of towns and can go through very quiet, almost countryside areas. This looks so cool with the buildings so close to the banks and the river being so wide and with everything lit up.

Oh yes, Chrissie, this is such an amazing way to show the architecture of Chicago’s downtown. They have regular architectural tours along the Chicago River in the summer. I think you would love it! Cher xo
