A few months ago I posted a photo along Lake Michigan with various apartment buildings in the background. One of those buildings was used in the opening credits of the 1970’s hit sitcom, “The Bob Newhart Show”. Bob played a Chicago psychiatrist; dead-panned, witty, and always perplexed by the ‘goings on’ of not only his patients but his close friends and neighbors.
Navy Pier here in Chicago recently displayed an, ‘ode to Bob Newhart’ in bronze form! I quite think it looks like him! You might be wondering why the statue is located at Navy Pier; truly, I haven’t the foggiest with the exception of a guess on my part. Navy Pier is the most popular tourist attraction in Chicago; more people to see it there, I suppose.
Oh, here is the photo with “Bob’s apartment building” I was talking about:
It’s the taller building left of the center of the photo!
Congratulations Bob Newhart; you are forever etched in the hearts (and bronze!) of your fans!

Oh my goodness yes! Wasn’t that great? 🙂
Yes… You never saw his face yet he was famous… Do you know who he was…. Wait for it, George Carlin.. I think
Oh really? I didn’t know that! I always wondered who it was! *LOL*
He used to say “far out”
Oh did he? *LOL* I love it!
I love how Our Fair City embraces its place in pop culture. Great post, Cher!
I love that too! Thank you so much!! 🙂 🙂 Cher xo
You touched upon one of my favorite programs from my youth. Bob Newhart is certainly one of the greatest of all time, his deadpan delivery is reminiscent of the great Jack Benny.
Always loved the opening of the show with the zoom in and cut to the interior as the story begins. I am glad that Chicago brings back the memory in bronze. Thanks for sharing. – John
Ah, that is so nice to hear, John! Yes, the deadpan delivery was spot on, wasn’t it? I loved that opening of the show, too! 🙂 Cher xo
I love Bob Newhart. I know Chicagoans are probably bigger fans of The Bob Newhart Show, but my favorite was Newhart, the one in Vermont. Probably because I’m just a country boy.
Did you ask Mr. Newhart to take his picture? xo
Oh Don! Of course I did!! He replied, “Sure thing, but would you ask Don when he is FINALLY going to share with Ollie?” TRUE STORY! ;-P Cher xo
Ollie has been seen, since the middle of last week…. xo
Hhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm xo
I love Bob Newhart — so glad that a statue was made of him. Loved him on Big Bang Theory!
Well now there’s something I didn’t know! Was he on Big Bang Theory? It shows how much I don’t know! *LOL* Cher xo
Yes, he played a scientist and science teacher for a children’s TV show and parties. It’s worth checking out if you love him. He actually won an Emmy for his performance. You can see excerpts of it if you google Professor Proton and Big Bang THeory (you tube and bing.com videos) Enjoy!
Why thank you so much for letting me know about this! Really appreciate it and you bet I’ll be checking it out! Cher xo
Bob had quite a view
He sure did, didn’t he?
I wouldn´t mind living there that´s for sure
Yes, I agree!!
A lovely tribute (you and the bronze) to one of our most beloved funny guys! ♥
*LOL* Ah, thanks so much, Billy Ray!! He deserves the bronze, doesn’t he? Well, deserves the gold in making us laugh, and the bronze for the statue! *grin* Cher xo
Thanks. Bob’s records never fail to amuse as they are base on such acute observations. Delighted to see him in bronze! Regards Thom
I completely agree with you, Thom! It was ‘right’ that he be etched in bronze! *LOL* Cher xo
