A few months ago I posted a photo along Lake Michigan with various apartment buildings in the background. One of those buildings was used in the opening credits of the 1970’s hit sitcom, “The Bob Newhart Show”. Bob played a Chicago psychiatrist; dead-panned, witty, and always perplexed by the ‘goings on’ of not only his patients but his close friends and neighbors.
Navy Pier here in Chicago recently displayed an, ‘ode to Bob Newhart’ in bronze form! I quite think it looks like him! You might be wondering why the statue is located at Navy Pier; truly, I haven’t the foggiest with the exception of a guess on my part. Navy Pier is the most popular tourist attraction in Chicago; more people to see it there, I suppose.
Oh, here is the photo with “Bob’s apartment building” I was talking about:
It’s the taller building left of the center of the photo!
Congratulations Bob Newhart; you are forever etched in the hearts (and bronze!) of your fans!

You touched upon one of my favorite programs from my youth. Bob Newhart is certainly one of the greatest of all time, his deadpan delivery is reminiscent of the great Jack Benny.
Always loved the opening of the show with the zoom in and cut to the interior as the story begins. I am glad that Chicago brings back the memory in bronze. Thanks for sharing. – John

I love Bob Newhart. I know Chicagoans are probably bigger fans of The Bob Newhart Show, but my favorite was Newhart, the one in Vermont. Probably because I’m just a country boy.

Did you ask Mr. Newhart to take his picture? xo

Yes, he played a scientist and science teacher for a children’s TV show and parties. It’s worth checking out if you love him. He actually won an Emmy for his performance. You can see excerpts of it if you google Professor Proton and Big Bang THeory (you tube and bing.com videos) Enjoy!
