Whether weather here, or whether weather there…………….

Lake Michigan January 6 2014

This is Lake Michigan today.  Rather brooding and cold-looking, wouldn’t you say?

And these are from Mars, um, Winnipeg.  Ice fog included.

Recently I noted that Winnipeg, Manitoba was colder than Mars! And by all accounts, I am sure there are some Martians breathing a sigh of relief that for once their home wasn’t one of the coldest creations in our solar system.

Now, today in Chicagoland it is COLD!  Not just the, oh, shiver-me-timbers I need a jacket cold, but full gear, need my thermals kind of cold……

HOWEVER……………………

I wanted to see how it felt; you know, could I tell all of my Canucks back home that finally, FINALLY, I could actually say that this was just like Winnipeg, that, oh, it felt like Edmonton on a typical January day.  So I ventured down the street, waiting for the past (yet familiar) Winnipeg wind feeling to grip my face, make my eyelashes start to freeze kind of cold…………

IT DID NOT!!  Yes, as soon as I got outside, I knew immediately that it was colder than I have ever felt here in Chicago.  But how do you explain Canadian Prairie cold unless you have experienced it?  My eyelashes have frozen, a cough would not stop until back inside the warmth of some heated structure, ice fog bellowing from cars so thick you couldn’t see in front of you.  Car parts falling off from sheer frigid temperatures, you get the picture.

Did I see any of this today? Nope!  I did chat with a lady about the cold, though.  When I told her I truly have experienced much, much colder, she looked at me and said, “Where are you from…………….MARS?” “Close” I said, “Winnipeg”!! *just teasing, but she did gaze at me as if I were from Mars.* 🙂

I will never complain about the cold in Chicago; ever.  After all, Martians have a way of reminding you what cold really is!

Stay warm!

That’s why you couldn’t pay me enough money to live in Winnipeg! It’s cold enough here in Ontario right now. Stay warm my dear! 🙂

Only in Winterpeg can you say “I SEE what you’re saying” and it’s true, because here you can see your breathed words in the blistering COLD. I actually plugged my car in for the first time in 3 years and I’m wearing boots, even if only to appease my husband. He’s a native of the Caribbean and will only venture outside if it snows while I’m at work, to shovel the driveway, so that I can get the car back in it’s shed. As I write, Jack’s curled up in his snuggy. lol This is true love! And they said it wouldn’t last……

Awh, you and Jack are so cute! And yes, only in Winterpeg! I try to explain the feeling of the cold, but it doesn’t work. And I don’t seem to have a lot of volunteers who would like to experience it! *LOL* I do remember the first time my eye lashes went white with frost; it gave ME a fright looking in the mirror!

After a day of 39 C here in sub-tropical Australia, both Chicago and Winnipeg are looking nice! (!!??) While North America freezes, Australia swelters. Is there anywhere that stays a nice 24 C all year round? 😉

Oh my, yes, that is hot, Jo! I have read that San Diego in California has very consistent weather; between 19-25C each day, sunny and dry! Hhhmmm, that is starting to look like perfection about now, wouldn’t you say? 🙂
