Trivia Tuesday & Fountain Fun!

Buckingham Fountain - bing

Here is a quick little trivia bit for, “Trivia Tuesday” here at The Chicago Files!  The above photo is Buckingham Fountain located in Grant Park in Chicago.  The fountain was donated to the city and dedicated on August 26, 1927.  Kate Buckingham, a wealthy Chicagoan, named the fountain, “Clarence F. Buckingham Fountain” after her late brother as a tribute to him.

Ah wait, there is another interesting piece of trivia that you may or may not know about.  Did you ever watch the sitcom, “Married With Children”?  It ran from 1987 to 1997.  The opening scene begins with……yes, now you’ve got it! Each episode began with footage of the Buckingham Fountain!  The fictitious family on the show resided in a suburb of Chicago.

I must say it was rather funny to me the first time I saw the fountain, thinking about the silly show it ‘starred’ in!

Another bit of trivia a la Grant Park; the fountain is located in the park where President Obama gave his victory speech in 2008; here, have a look:

Now where did that fountain go?  🙂
