Saturday Serenity: Seeing the bigger picture!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s Saturday morning, serenity time with my large, jumbo-sized cup of coffee, and I’m enjoying the tranquility after another busy, harried week.

I took the above photo when flying back from California a few weeks ago.  I do believe we are over Illinois and, “not in Kansas” anymore; um, I mean, “California anymore”.  You get the idea I’m sure.  Looking through the wispy clouds at a much flatter landscape than would typically be seen in California brings such contrast to the eye.  I’ve always been fascinated by the scenes and variations viewed when flying high above the land below.  Not quite the same as the view our astronauts witness when looking at our entire planet all at once, the changing and contrasting topography seen from a plane is still nonetheless mesmerizing.

I often think of the sky-high views as likened to seeing the ‘overall picture’ of something.  Which leads me to an analogy about life.  Sometimes we are so marred in the up-close, overwhelming details of a situation that we find it extremely difficult to step back and take a look at the bigger picture.  When we can do this, similar to our airplane window’s perspective of ‘a whole lot of everything at once’, it can bring everything into a much clearer mindset.  I am so grateful when I can step back from the teeny-tiny details of something and look at it for what it really is and not the ‘in the moment’ fragments of what I think it really is.  In other words, taking a page from the airplane angle, it’s a good idea to remind ourselves not to get caught up in making the morsel of an experience more than it is.  See it as a little component from the airplane window that needs to be put into the big picture perspective and not front and center where it doesn’t belong.

I hope you have a lovely, big-picture kind of day! To me that’s a ‘whole lotta interestin’, and feels much better than being weighed down with the particulars!
