It’s Sunday evening here in Chicago. I’ve been in a rather reminiscing mood all day today. I was thinking back to incredible vacation we had last year in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. The above photo was taken at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. This hotel is a true icon of an era that epitomized Hollywood in its heyday. It was constructed in 1927, and has such a surreal feel to it. I’ve never been one to take an interest in celebrities, gossip columns, or anything related to the somewhat ‘shallow’ end of the pool. Yet the history, the buildings, the intrigue of nineteenth and early twentieth century North American culture fascinates me.
When walking through the halls of the Roosevelt Hotel, there were moments that seemed to somehow slip back in time only to be jolted back into the here and now by the ringing of a cell phone. I did find myself trying to envision what it was like ‘back in the day’ (I’ve always liked that phrase; it never identifies a particular day – *LOL*). What did everyone look like? What were they thinking about?
Have you ever experienced a place, location, building (time-period in general) that you were drawn to for no specific explanation whatsoever? Fascinating, I think.
