Thursday Doors: Travel Bureau, RMS Queen Mary

The always lovely Norm from Norm 2.0 has a great weekly feature called, “Thursday Doors”.  He invites fellow bloggers to share unique and interesting doors that we happen upon.

During my visit a few months ago to the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, I came upon this little gem.  This door leads to the “Travel Bureau” office.  During the ‘Golden Age of Travel’, passengers could purchase tickets for other modes of transportation.

For example, let’s suppose a well-heeled couple was traveling from Southampton, England to New York City (the Queen Mary took 1,200 cross-Atlantic voyages on this route).  They might want to purchase train tickets to travel to Chicago.

Why, even theater tickets or hotel reservations could be made behind this lovely door!

Can you see the etched glass on the door and windows?  This style of decor is all over the ship.  So is the beautiful art deco (as you can see with the signage in this photo).

I wonder what it was like to be sailing aboard this phenomenal ship, book tickets for a Broadway show in New York City, and then take a train trip across the country.  A delightful experience, no doubt!
