Sunday Serenity: Send the Elevator Back Down

It’s not often that I feel compelled to write a post based on a quote; however, today I am doing just that.

Here is the quote I came across by one of my favorite actors:

If you are lucky enough to do well in life, it is your responsibility to send the elevator back down. – Kevin Spacey

I love this quote! I love it for a number of reasons.  First of all, to me it is a wonderful metaphor noting it is our responsibility that, if we find ourselves doing well (in whatever capacity), we really ought to help others.  It also tells me that Kevin Spacey (whose acting I greatly admire) ‘gets it’.  He understands the value of walking around the planet not with ego so inflated that he’s lost touch with what is truly important in life.  Ego can set a treacherous path (and a false one, I might add) if we let it get the better of us to the detriment of others.

Let’s remember to send the elevator back down, even if our view is not that much higher than others; it can still have a major impact in helping someone “share the higher view” with us.
