Thursday Doors: Epworth Methodist Church, Chicago

Every Thursday the lovely Norm over at Norm 2.0 has a fun feature called, “Thursday Doors”.  Norm challenges us to find unique and fascinating doors that we happen to come across during our travels.

This is the “Epworth Methodist Church” located in Chicago.  Built in 1890, the Romanesque style architecture and use of boulders and stones gives the church such an ancient, small village feeling.  In 2008 the structure was listed on the “Register of Historic Places”.

And those doors!  I love the slatted wood!  Can you see the ‘gargoyles’ on either side of the lettering above the doors?  It’s a feature that I absolutely love to see on buildings.  Besides the beauty on the exterior, it continues inside the doors; this is an inclusive, reconciling congregation.  All are welcome, whatever gender, race, age, sexual orientation, economic status, etc.

Thanks as always to Norm for providing bloggers with a great opportunity to display some very interesting doors!
