Continuing with our Chicago architectural series, the above photo is that of the, “Trump Tower”. In case you were wondering, yes, it is Donald Trump’s ‘little’ edifice! Also known as, “Trump International Hotel & Tower”, it reaches up into the sky at 98 stories, 1,389 feet (which includes its spire). This building is the fourth tallest in the United States. Mr. Trump had to, ‘pony up’, as the old saying goes, $847 million for this steel and glass formation. Probably just, “Trump change” to him, no doubt! 🙂
Hosting a hotel, condos, and retail businesses, the Trump Tower is a gargantuan structure along the Chicago River. Can you see the, “corncob” buildings down the street? You might also recognize the, “Wrigley Building” in the photo? By the way, the “corncob” buildings I am referring to are actually known as, “Marina City”; however, Chicagoans like to call it as they see it, ergo the ‘corncob’ handle.
I can’t say that I have ever been inside this behemoth building. At a minimum of $625.00 US per night, I can only imagine what the hotel portion is like. Ah, the condos! The most expensive condo in the building (and in the entire City of Chicago, for that matter) sold for a cool $17 million. The owner doesn’t even live in it. Apparently he provides its spacious quarters for, ‘out of town business guests’ (the owner is a CEO of a software company).
Moving right along…………………………….. 🙂
