The Friday File – Surprising the Seal!

Seal Aquarium of the Pacific

It has been quite a frosty week here in Chicago.  As the weekend approaches, I have been trying to think warm thoughts! Ah, here is one that reminds me of warmth and humor!  The above picture was taken when we visited the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California a few months ago.  This delightful seal was mesmerized by the keys the woman was tossing to her husband and vice-versa.  In this photo it is hard to see that there is glass between them.  I loved watching this seal’s inquisitive response to a tiny set of keys.

This reminds me that we all need to give ourselves permission to sometimes see things through child-like eyes.  Not ‘childish’, which connotes an adult immaturity or inappropriate response; what I am referring to is the wonder of a child.  Seeing through the eyes of a child brings with it a sense of seeing the ‘ordinary’ as ‘extraordinary’.  The seal is having a delightful time watching the keys fly into the air; he isn’t aware of its simplicity to those watching him.  He is merely having fun for the sake of it all!  Lessons abound here, even in waves of water!!
