Thursday Thoughts: Kindness Despite the Chaos

Yesterday’s egregious display of mayhem in and around the Capitol Building in Washington DC was something most of us never thought we would see in this country. And yet, there it was, playing out in real-time for the entire world to witness.

I’m not going to talk about the details of what happened, nor am I trying to provide my own political commentary.

What I want to do in this post is to try and remind all of us that what we can do, right in this moment, no matter your political beliefs, is to send out thoughts of kindness to whomever you wish.

The frustration, anger, and whatever else you want to say that describes your feelings of what happened yesterday are all negative energy. But after you’ve felt and perhaps expressed those emotions, what comes next?

To me, they have to be replaced with something else in order to change not only what is focused upon, but collectively as well.

Think about all of the negative feelings and thoughts regarding yesterday’s events that are, at this very moment, being talked about around the world. I get that.

But what if we decided to do something kind for someone, or for ourselves, or simply think about what is good in the world. In other words, using your mental energy to put a tick mark in the positive column instead of the negative.

How does that make you feel? Does it literally feel better?

In my opinion, if the negative energy is palpable, the positive will be a much better replacement. Once that happens, things can (and do) change.

So just as a wee challenge, please take a moment, however small, and send some kind and positive thoughts ‘out there. I just sent some to you.
