Bears and Barcodes on Benches…..Bewildering!!!

bear-ice-sculpture

Winter…….cold weather, cozy sweaters, hockey, snow blanketing the scenery with all its glory.  Oh, and bears.  In ice form.  With barcodes.  You know, a QR Code that you can scan for ‘more’ information.

A few weeks before Christmas, I decided to walk through a local park/zoo area.  Ah, bless, there were the wolves with their intense energy and gaze, and otters performing the tricks of their trade for every passerby.  Feeling quite pleased interacting with my animal pals, I walked down a path and came upon a number of ice sculptures.  I was quite impressed (and always have been) with the sheer and utter ability these ice artists possess.  Surely it can’t be easy to stare at a large, over-sized looking ice cube one minute, and later say, behold, I have produced this intricate replica of the Sistine Chapel in four hours and 22 seconds!

Ice can be used in many forms; chunks, chips, cubes, just to name a few.  However, ice and bar codes do not mix.  How disappointing to see this ice art displayed with advertising of one’s website.  Perhaps it is just my take on it, but I feel it would have been a tad more enjoyable to leave the code off the ice.  What’s next, Olympians with barcodes on their ski helmets? If you can scan my code whilst I move at Mach 3 down this slope, you will find out what kind of cereal brand is paying me to entice you, yes you to buy it and become a skiing sensation!!

Please, next time the only sign should be, “Do Not Scan This Bear With Anything But Your Eyes”.  In case anyone is wondering, no, I did not scan the code.  I had all the information I needed right in front of me.  Lovely work…… your bear ice sculpture. 🙂
