Toronto: Hovering CN Tower

For those of you who are familiar with Toronto, no doubt the magnificent CN Tower is a structure you recognize.  Completed in 1976, this amazing piece of architecture stands at a whopping 553.3 meters high (1,815.3 ft).

Besides a restaurant, observation deck, and glass floor, apparently this is a new feature is called, “Edge Walk”.  Brave (braver than yours truly I might add) folks can ‘walk’ around the outside of the main ‘pod of the tower (356 meters, or 1,168.0 ft) whilst tethered to an overhead rail system.  By ‘pod’ I mean one of the round structures you see jetting out from the tower.  Years ago I went up in the CN Tower; the scenery was incredible, but I daresay I’d have to get up the nerve to do it again.

The skyline of Toronto is very different from that of Chicago’s, despite the fact both cities are located on Great Lakes (Toronto – Lake Ontario, Chicago – Lake Michigan).  I took the above pic from, “Billy Bishop Airport” which is actually located on its own island.  It’s very convenient if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of mammoth Pearson (Toronto) International Airport.  Billy Bishop Airport used to be accessible only by a ferry system which would schlep passengers back and forth in about 2 minutes.  Now there is a fantastic underground tunnel system with walking sidewalks.  This airport is actually minutes away from downtown Toronto.

In case anyone is wondering about the name of the airport, it was named after a famous Canadian WWI flying ace with 72 victories to his name.  I’m glad this airport is named after him; we don’t often see enough recognition of our Canadian heroes.

Have you been up in the CN Tower, or have you flown in and out of Billy Bishop Airport?

I’d probably not try that as being in the Stratosphere here creeps me out no matter where I’m at! And it sways too. 😵

Oh is he, Lana? Well it is a lovely city and it is actually the ‘sister city’ to Chicago! Why thank you, Lana! Cher xo

I walked across the glass floor of the CN Tower several years ago. Took me a few minutes to gather the courage because of my fear of heights. Kids were jumping up and down on it to make it bounce! Horror! But as soon as I did it once it was a piece of cake walking back and forth. However, I know for sure I would not want to test myself on the outside… I at least need a window between me and the air! Didn’t know about Billy Bishop Airport.

Oh my word! You are braver than I am! 🙂 Yes, when the kids do that, it just makes me feel dizzy! Yes, good thing for the window! It’s such a great airport! When Pearson (Toronto) International Airport is crazy-busy, Billy Bishop is such a wonderful reprieve! Cher xo

Been there, done that. Both in the summer and a very snowy winter. Summer was better. I’m not a snow person.
