The Friday File – Surprising the Seal!

Seal Aquarium of the Pacific

It has been quite a frosty week here in Chicago.  As the weekend approaches, I have been trying to think warm thoughts! Ah, here is one that reminds me of warmth and humor!  The above picture was taken when we visited the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California a few months ago.  This delightful seal was mesmerized by the keys the woman was tossing to her husband and vice-versa.  In this photo it is hard to see that there is glass between them.  I loved watching this seal’s inquisitive response to a tiny set of keys.

This reminds me that we all need to give ourselves permission to sometimes see things through child-like eyes.  Not ‘childish’, which connotes an adult immaturity or inappropriate response; what I am referring to is the wonder of a child.  Seeing through the eyes of a child brings with it a sense of seeing the ‘ordinary’ as ‘extraordinary’.  The seal is having a delightful time watching the keys fly into the air; he isn’t aware of its simplicity to those watching him.  He is merely having fun for the sake of it all!  Lessons abound here, even in waves of water!!

The Seal looks like a dog! So cute. I saw on the local weather your getting a serious blast of deep cold, stay toasty!

He does look like a doggie, doesn’t he, John? *LOL* We are getting a blast of deep cold. Although, you know John, I mustn’t complain, lest I be reminded by my fellow Canucks what “REAL” cold is (especially the hearty Prairie folks)!! *LOL* I’ll stay toasty, and you remember your sunscreen, my friend!! I really liked this posting. Excellent reminder how we sometimes get “stuck” in how we see things 🙂

It was awesome to visit! Later we went to that little village on the shore next to it. I don’t know the name but it was so cute with restaurants.
