Continuing with our Chicago architectural series, the above photo is that of the, “Trump Tower”. In case you were wondering, yes, it is Donald Trump’s ‘little’ edifice! Also known as, “Trump International Hotel & Tower”, it reaches up into the sky at 98 stories, 1,389 feet (which includes its spire). This building is the fourth tallest in the United States. Mr. Trump had to, ‘pony up’, as the old saying goes, $847 million for this steel and glass formation. Probably just, “Trump change” to him, no doubt! 🙂
Hosting a hotel, condos, and retail businesses, the Trump Tower is a gargantuan structure along the Chicago River. Can you see the, “corncob” buildings down the street? You might also recognize the, “Wrigley Building” in the photo? By the way, the “corncob” buildings I am referring to are actually known as, “Marina City”; however, Chicagoans like to call it as they see it, ergo the ‘corncob’ handle.
I can’t say that I have ever been inside this behemoth building. At a minimum of $625.00 US per night, I can only imagine what the hotel portion is like. Ah, the condos! The most expensive condo in the building (and in the entire City of Chicago, for that matter) sold for a cool $17 million. The owner doesn’t even live in it. Apparently he provides its spacious quarters for, ‘out of town business guests’ (the owner is a CEO of a software company).
Moving right along…………………………….. 🙂

It’s a great looking building, far more attractive and much larger than the Trump building here in Las Vegas.

Is it, John? Having never been to Vegas, I haven’t seen it! Cher xo

Oh yes, it’s not nearly so pretty. It has a white-ish skin with yellow-ish reflective stuff on all the external glass, a great idea here in the desert but it’s not too pretty.

I shall have to look it up, John, despite its, ‘unpretty’ exterior!! 🙂 Cher xo

The guy’s ubiquitous. He bought a chunk of Scotland and turned it into a golf course (against the local’s wishes).

Oh I didn’t know about the land in Scotland! How awful! He’s had some issues with the City of Chicago (so I hear) as well. Not surprising on any accounts, is it, Hilary? Cher xo

I know what you mean! *LOL* I think Donald Trump has buildings in the US and Canada; otherwise, I am not sure if he has them anywhere else! But it sure is a HUGE building!! Cher xo

Nice article, Cher. Can’t they get rid of that giant “TRUMP” sign on the side of the building? That’s ugly and out of character for the city’s skyline. What an ego!

Seeing the “corncobs” makes me happy! I remember those things from many drives downtown. Honestly, I never knew what they were properly called. Corncobs worked fine!
