Ram, Sheep, or Goat?……..No matter, with a Firecracker Coat!

Chinese New Year Ram 2015

Happy Chinese New Year! This is the year of the, um, Ram, Sheep, Goat? It depends on who you ask.  I’m bewildered about this, to say the least.  Nonetheless, I present to you the Macy’s Chinese New Year’s Ram!

A six-member delegation from the Chinese Ministry of Culture’s, Arts, and Entertainment Group traveled to Chicago to assist in creating some incredible decorations for this year’s celebrations.  The Ram Display you see above is made of firecrackers!  Apologies for the less than stellar quality of the photo; I had to shimmy my way to the front of the display in order to get a clear snap for you!

There are approximately 43,000 residents of Chinese descent living in the Chicago area; bless them for sharing their festive and colorful celebrations with all Chicagoans! Celebrations for Chinese New Year began on February 15th and will finish on March 1st.

I know 2015 is the year of the Ram, Sheep, or Goat (depending on who you ask, as I think there are various interpretations) but it does look cool, doesn’t it? 🙂 🙂

That’s an interesting image you have here, Cher. Yes, there are colorful celebrations by the Chinese. Thanks for mentioning this “happy” holiday. I knew it was sometime at the beginning of the year. I haven’t heard or read anything about it here in South Florida, for some reason. When I lived in NY, there was much celebration by the Chinese residents.

What a joy it must be to have this kind of cultural infusion in to the city. Looks like a wonderful celebration Cher. 🙂

Thank you so much, Don! Yes, it really is incredible. And Don, a few years ago, we attended a small neighborhood Chinese New Year Parade! It was an absolutely frigidly cold day, but we bundled up and stood along the parade path. We received a few small ornaments, some firecrackers, and at one point one of the local businesses (again, a VERY small parade) invited us to ride on their float with them! Respectfully we declined, but it gave us such a wonderful sense of sharing and caring by this wonderful community! Cher xo

It was such great fun, Don! And to think these dear folks simply wanted to include us because of our attendance at the parade was an incredibly humbling and heart-warming moment! Cher xo

That is precisely what struck me about it, Cher – that beautiful spirit of inclusion.

Ah yes, Don. And although many people see me as an extrovert, I am, in fact an introvert. As much as I’d have loved to hop onto the parade float, I felt watching from the sidelines was thoroughly enjoyable! 🙂 🙂
