Thursday Doors: Belle Shore Apartments, Chicago

The wonderful Norm from Norm 2.0 has a fun weekly feature called, “Thursday Doors”.  He invites fellow bloggers to share interesting and unique doors that cross our paths.

The above photo is the front door of the “Belle Shore Apartments” located in the Edgewater neighborhood of  Chicago.

In 1995, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A few years later it was designated as a Chicago Landmark.

The building was constructed in 1929 and was designed by architects Nathaniel Koenigsberg and Leon Weisfeld.  The architectural design was influenced by the Egyptian Art-Deco movement of the time.  King Tut’s tomb had just been discovered a few years prior, no doubt creating quite an influence in architectural design for many structures in the late 1920’s.

The door is such a perfect symbol for the entire design of the building, and every time I see it I cannot help but smile.  I hope it makes you smile as well!
