No, not Peyton Manning, not Peyton(Place) but Payton of Des Plaines!!!
And it all started with a glove………..
The train was noticeably empty late this morning. I was feeling rather ‘regal’; you know, as if the entire train car was my personal coach, the operator at the helm, whisking me off to some enchanted, faraway place……………………….
And then the doors opened, a man got on, and reality came in as well!
The air suddenly filled with the oh so familiar recording of, “THORNDALE IS NEXT……….DOORS OPEN ON THE LEFT, AT THORNDALE.” “DOORS CLOSING”.
The man sat across from me in our little coach. At first I didn’t really pay too much attention. But then I noticed his glove had dropped on the floor; he didn’t seem to realize it, so I picked it up and handed it to him. What started as a simple gesture of “empty glove empathy”turned into the most wonderful conversation. I soon began to discover that Payton, my coach pal has a love of sociology, people, kindness and compassion that left me inspired. He told me his son’s girlfriend is from Montreal! Payton is a father, grandfather, and co-owner of Des Plaines Taxi Cab Company. As to why a cab owner would be riding the train I had to ask! Payton had one of his cabs break down, and he was riding several trains back to the company office. Our conversation wound up back at the dropped glove. We both agreed it would be most acceptable (at least to the two of us) to have those, um, “strings” attached to our gloves like the kiddos have for preventative measure!
After our coach arrived at the station, I proceeded on my purple line train, and, as serendipity likes to show its smiles, Peyton rode the yellow train.
In need of a terrific cab company in Chicagoland? Going to O’Hare or Midway airports? Give Payton of Des Plaines Taxi Cab a call. He’ll make sure you get a good deal. Oh, and if you leave your glove in the car, he’ll get it to you……………no strings attached! 🙂
