Sunday Serenity: Macy’s Trees of Christmases Past

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is a mere 12 days away. COVID-19 has literally turned the world upside-down, so the holidays seem surreal to me.

Normally by this time of year, I’ve been to Macy’s on State Street here in Chicago at least four or five times by now.

The holiday displays are always so enchanting, especially the massive Christmas Tree that sits center stage in the “Walnut Room Restaurant.”

Due to this unwelcomed pandemic, this is the first year since I moved to Chicago that I haven’t seen the display. That makes me very sad, as I really enjoy sharing the pictures with you.

I toiled over whether to show you pictures that some of you have already seen from previous Christmases, since I didn’t have anything new to share.

But then I thought, no, I will include some, because the beauty and good energy these delightful trees provide don’t have a shelf-life when it comes to photos.

So here are Chicago’s “Macy’s Christmas Trees” from 2016-2019, beginning with the gorgeous tree above (2016).

Next on our ascending chronological list is “2017”:

Followed by 2018:

And here is the tree from 2019:

I’d be remiss if I didn’t show you the tree from this year, even though I didn’t take this photo myself. Due to COVID restrictions, only diners that have reservations get to see the tree this year:

Let’s hope for better times ahead; in the meantime, I’m sending you lots of positivity and light. We are all in this together, so please reach out to someone who might need an extra boost, even if it’s a short text or message. It will do them (and you) the world of good!

Oh I love this! Colleen and I were watching the Rockette’s Christmas special last night and saying we want to go to New York City at Christmastime to see the Rockette’s show and go to Macy’s. One day.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful tree. I will miss seeing you this Christmas and at our January catch-up in Chicago. I have often said this year that I am so glad we got to have a wee visit before everything shut down.

Oh how cool that you and Colleen were watching the Rockette’s Christmas Special, Michelle! I saw the Rockette’s on tv during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and they were outstanding!

Yes, wouldn’t it be an incredible time to be in NYC? One day for sure!

Thank you, my dear! Yes, I am too, but I will miss seeing you this Christmas and at our January catch-up here in Chicago.

Let’s get those vaccine’s rolling! We need to go to O’Hare and find our fav server! 😉 Cher xoxoxo

Thank you for sharing these trees. They are gorgeous. When I see those, I always ask myself how long it takes to decorate them.
I love that you are making us aware that WE ALL are in this TOGETHER. We all are feeling similar restrictions and therefore understand the feelings of others. There were not many times in our lives that taking care of each other in general but at Christmas time, in particular, had a deeper meaning.

Thank you so much, dear Erika! Yes, I have often wondered how long it takes to decorate them! They have so many ornaments on the tree that you can’t even see the tree! LOL

Ah, thank you so much for that! Beautifully said, dear Erika; thank you!! Cher xoxo

You know Jeff, I’ve heard that so many times from Chicagoans, and I wish I would have had the chance to see it when it was Marshalls. Cher xo

I was wondering if you were going to post any photos of Macy’s Christmas tree this year, Cher? I’m so pleased that not only have you shared a photo of this year’s tree but that of the last 4 Christmases as well. I could never tire of looking at photos of Christmas trees.

Like you, I have missed out on visiting the stores this Christmas. In a way, I feel like I’ve been hard done by, but then I remember that I am thankful that I am still here to see Christmas 2020.

Seasons Greetings and lots of hugs to you. 🎅

Oh, there’s nothing like your Masey’s Christmas photographs! I love the entire lot! Especially the red one that reflects Believe above the star! I seem to recall a couple of your pictures of Christmas past featured their showcase windows. Thank you for sharing Cher, they are truly exquisite!
