With the holidays quickly approaching, we are often reminded to think about what we are grateful for. But I feel it’s important to be aware of what we are appreciative of every single day of the year.
This is a photo of my “Gratitude Jar.” I received this beautiful glass jar last Christmas. It has a wooden lid, and comes with TONS of little ‘gratitude’ cards. I simply take a card, write anything and everything I am grateful for, and plunk it into the jar.
It wasn’t long before the notes began to pile up, as it were. Which meant that the things I have to be grateful for are plentiful.
Here’s an example of one of those gratitude moments.
“I am grateful for the puppy that wagged its tail when I walked past it this morning.”
Taking the approach that our lives are filled with things to be grateful for suddenly opens up more to be grateful for. In other words, once we truly realize how many blessings we have, new experiences, people, etc. suddenly begin to ‘show up.’
It isn’t a ‘coincidence’ though, that more things to be grateful for arrive in our experiences when we truly recognize the abundance of blessings each and every one of us already has. Our job, for lack of a better term, is to acknowledge those things. You don’t need a Gratitude Jar to do this, but I think writing down what you are grateful for seems to have a special energy in and of itself. It brings your awareness to ‘see’ and ‘feel’ gratitude in a different way.
I like to think of it as a magnet. The feelings of gratitude attract more to be thankful for.
Thank YOU for reading this post. Yes, you are in the jar. 😉
This is a wonderful idea, Cher. And I’m thankful for writers like you who give readers positive nuggets of thoughts!

I am grateful to have you as a blogging friend. And I know you will say I am grateful that one of your pushy friends is always telling you to do a demo tape.

My dear Joseph, thank you so much, and I too am grateful to have you as a blogging friend. LOL LOL Quite the opposite, my dear. It’s a lovely and appreciated reminder to let me know that yes, perhaps I can do it (despite my lacking of confidence). 😉 Cher xo

This is such a fantastic idea. A gratitude jar shows even better than a list how much there is we can be grateful for.

Thank you, dear Erika! I am such a visual person (as I think you are as well) so seeing little pieces of paper in a jar become a big pile is quite something!! Cher xo

We find what we look for whether it’s positive or negative. So to look for things we are thankful for can only improve ourselves, or outlooks on life, hopefully transferring the same to our contacts through osmosis and hopefully improving the world one person at a time. Hard not to be kind if exposed to it over and over again. We start out kind when we are born. It’s only through negative exposure that we or others become less kind. The world needs to go back to kindness if it is to survive in peace.

You are right, we attract even more to feel grateful for.

Ah, that’s so nice to hear, dear Irene! Thank you, and please let me know if you find a jar to use! Every time I take off the wooden lid, and then place my note inside the jar, I feel really happy! Yes, we sure do attract even more to feel grateful for, don’t we? Cher xo
