Recently I was in the town of Winnetka, Illinois. It’s just outside of Chicago; and yet, I felt as if I was a million miles away from the big city.
I had never been to Winnetka before, and immediately it reminded me of many small towns in Canada. It had such a different vibe to it than Chicago’s energy. It’s almost as if I hadn’t realized how much I was needing a calmer perspective. I love Chicago; it’s definitely one of the most incredible cities on the planet.
And yet, having the opportunity to spend a bit of time away from the hustle and bustle made me appreciate the slower pace a small town can offer.
I took this picture of the train tracks while I was waiting for my train back to Chicago. I think it is a great symbol (and literal) example of balance; joining the serene with the quick moving.
What about you, do you have a preference between small towns and large cities?
Nice photo Cher! I understand what you mean, it’s always a different environment when in Michigan, such a small town. My buddy in Michigan sent me a link yesterday regarding Amtrak discontinuing the Dinner car, or is it Diner? Will save Amtrak about 2 million per year.
The trade off is that the food will apparently be the packaged crap you get on airliners these days. The article also mentioned the dissatisfaction that the Milenials (spelt wrong) have with dining with strangers. Seriously?

Thank you, John! Well that is certainly disappointing, isn’t it? I hadn’t heard about any of what you mentioned. Cher xo

I love the serenity of small town life, but an occasional trip to the city can be a treat! 🙂

Nice photo, Cher. I prefer so much the town life, as I find the city life much too stressing for me, no matter I don’t work any longer.
I do live in a city now and I’m so much looking forward to my next move away from cities.

Thank you, dear Irene! Yes, city life can be overwhelming at times, can’t it? Are you thinking of moving soon, or perhaps next year? Cher xo

You are right Cher, much need to fit into each other, before the move is possible for real.

I prefer medium sized cities. My experience with small town is everyone knows everyone else’s business but I also couldn’t see myself in a large city at this stage of my life.

I think medium sized cities are great! It’s like a blend of both large and small but without the things that come along with each!! Thank you, Michelle! Cher xo

My heart will always live in a small town. Do you ever go up into Wisconsin, Cher? I absolutely loved visiting Door County and those charming small towns!

There is nothing like the feeling of connecting with a small town and the people who live there. My experience has been that most of the town’s people take the time to talk to you instead of seeing you as another sale.

It is something that doesn’t happen often in large cities, that’s for sure, Pete! Thank you! Cher xo
