The lovely Norm from Norm 2.0 has a fun weekly feature called, “Thursday Doors”. He invites fellow bloggers to share interesting and unique doors that we happen to see during our travels.
The photo above is of a magnificent door I recently saw at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Despite the simplicity of the actual ‘door’, the grandeur of its surroundings is stunning. This hotel is like none I have ever seen. With varied architecture styles (mixture of Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical and Moorish) you might think it would be too eclectic; however, they work really well together.
I felt as if I had literally stepped back in time when I opened this door. I felt like I had entered a time machine to one of the most opulent eras in American history.
The Biltmore opened its (many) beautiful doors in 1923, and was home to the first Academy Awards.
Interestingly, I usually prefer a more stream-lined architectural style, such as art deco; however, in the case of The Biltmore, I’m definitely a fan.
What do you think about this style?
Wow, that’s really elaborate! Beautiful door! xo

Yes, it sure is, Holly! In fact, some of the work was done by the same architect who design areas of the Vatican and the White House (if I am not mistaken). Good eye, my dear! Thank you! Cher xo

Cher, a spectacular visual feast ! At first glance, I thought it was a Church. Such beautiful architecture, I can imagine staying for a weekend and ordering Room Service for a midnight snack!
ThankYou for sharing and have a lovely vacation there!
Cheers!

Why thank you, dearie! Yes, yesterday for “Wordless Wednesday” Hugh from Wales said the same thing about the lobby! It is such a magnificent building! Apparently the actual Oscar statue idea was sketched on a napkin in one of the ballrooms (could be the one in this pic)! Back in Chicago now! Thanks so much, Quiche! Cher xo
