Sunday Serenity: Humor in the Laundry

Living in a high-rise condo building has its ups and downs (literally). For example, laundry day. Now that’s a ‘down’ if you ask me. There is a laundry room where I live which means hauling your laundry and accouterments to and from the washers and dryers.

By the way, I seem to have an over abundance of ‘accouterments’ that I cannot live without when it comes to doing laundry.

Here, for your amusement, is what I use as the accompaniment to the wash and dry regime:

Washer:

Detergent pods (no brainer there I suppose)

Scent pods (must have a great smelling laundry)

Laundry candy (wait, what? beads that you ‘shake’ into the wash to also add great scent to the spin cycle)

Odor remover beads (good heavens, really? – and do the odor beads remove the laundry candy scents? Am I on the wrong track here?)

Liquid Fabric Softener (in case I forget the dryer sheets I’m covered)

Color catcher sheets (you know, to catch the red sock from overwhelming the white t-shirt you accidentally mixed together)

Bleach (whites brighter and red socks a lovely shade of pink! – well, not if the color catcher did its duty)

Dryer:

Dryer balls (to prevent static-dryer balls cling)

Dryer sheets (also prevent static-cling but add a lovely scent as well).

Whew! Can you see why I get so tired doing the laundry before doing the laundry? I must say getting all of that business sorted before the clothes sorting is a bit of a challenge; however, it works!

So, back to the laundry room! After what seemed like an endless parade of towels and t-shirts, I was on the home-stretch with the dryers spinning (I swear someone put rocks in one of the dryers, as I could hear ‘clang, clang clang, CLANG’ from a nearby spinner). Although tempting to wait and ask the launderer what they were using (some new fangled drying technique to add to my laundry list of accouterments) I decided the noise in and of itself was enough to let that one roll by.

Suprisingly enough, no one else was in the laundry room at the time although the washers and dryers were in full use.

If you have ever used laundry facilities in an apartment/condo complex, you will know that usually the dryers don’t stop automatically when you open the door. *Cautionary tale here: if the dryer is spinning, open with care*

Since I wanted to check to see if my clothes were dry, I attempted to open the door very slowly. Not slowly enough, for in the dash of a second didn’t my unmentionables literally fly out of the dryer and land smack-dab on top of my head!

Now, at this point you might be thinking, well that’s kind of funny, Cher. Good thing there wasn’t anyone to witness this, right?

Well, that’s what I thought; that is, until I remembered the security camera posted in the corner, about ten feet away from me. All I could think of was, well, I hope the folks who run the building had a laugh, because my unwilling humor should not have been merely wasted on me, don’t you think?

Ah, the laundry room. Flying objects might appear when you least expect it!
