How To See Chicago From a Captivating Angle – Part 3

As we continue skyward in the final part of our helicopter series with Chicago Helicopter Experience (CHE) (Here is Part 1:  How to See Chicago From a Captivating Angle – Part 1 and Part 2:  How to see Chicago From a Captivating Angle – Part 2) the above photo is one of my favorites!  If you look closely you can see a Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier! The Ferris Wheel was invented in Chicago by, yes, you guessed it, George FERRIS!  You can also see the John Hancock Building towering high above the Chicago skyline.  Look at the color of Lake Michigan! I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but the City of Chicago actually obtains our drinking water from the lake.

In the foreground of the above photo you can see, “Soldier Field”, where the Chicago Bears play in the National Football League (NFL).  At capacity, this stadium can hold 61,500 cheering fans (and for their sake, most of them better be cheering for the Bears!).

I thought I’d give you a perspective from my view inside the helicopter! And a sunroof included!

Behind the Scenes:

I asked Chicago Helicopter Experience pilot a question that I really wondered about, given their fortunate position of flying over this fantastic city of ours:

If you could fly over anything/anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Here is the interesting response:

Alaska for sure.  Some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet without leaving the U.S., so I don’t need to transfer my pilot certificates.  I’m also a long time enthusiast of mountain sports.

I had an absolute blast gliding above Chicago’s lakefront and downtown areas.  I honestly cannot wait to go back up again and snap more photos to share with you.  Ah, but next time I was thinking perhaps a dusk tour would be interesting!  Many of you know I love to photograph sunrises, cloud formations, and a combo of both; at dusk, I’ll bet the scenery would be magical!

Gorgeous shots, Cher! I especially love the one of the Ferris Wheel. The others are awesome too, but as a fan of the New England Patriots, I’m legally not allowed to like anything related to Soldier Field. *grin*

    Lovely.
I’d think dusk would be great. I used to love doing the boat tour that went up the river and then out onto the lake at dusk. With the right timing, it’s fairly light still on the river and then you get out on the lake and look back at the city with the colors of sunset as the backdrop. I look forward to seeing how that looks from a helicopter!

Thank you, Leigh! Oh yes, isn’t that an incredible sight? I took a tour a few years ago on the boat at dusk and it was surreal. I will definitely be taking a helicopter tour at dusk sometime and sharing the pics! Cher xo

Did he take you over the cribs that clean the water and pump it onshore? Pretty amazing stuff…

Now there’s something that would have been interesting to see, John! No, he didn’t but I’ll be asking about it next time! Thank you for the suggestion! Cher xo

It’s great to see Chicago in the sunlight. The only time I visited it was covered in snow and I’ve never been so cold in my life!! Fabulous architecture in the city and took a train to the suburbs to see a place famous for it’s Frank Lloyd Wright houses – walking round that was a dream come true for me. Actually enjoyed it more than New York xx

*so distinct that you can tell what each famous city is by looking at them. I like seeing it from different angles. Great job! 🍓 Do one at dusk!

Ah, bless! Why thank you so much for your kind words, Ruthie! Me too! I just love seeing places from different angles, I think that’s why I like writing about perspective; it can make the same thing or place appear entirely different from another vantage point! I sure plan on doing a dusk flight; thank you again! Cher xo

I haven’t flown in ages, but whenever I did, approaching a city for landing, the lights on sky scrapers were so exciting. It’s so weird, there is no skyline.

I’ve been on helicopter s in Maui

We went to Maui on our honeymoon. What a dream! I remember epic waterfalls and the volcano and way out away from the island so you see most of it!

Maui should be on your bucket list for sure!

I did, yes. It was a great thing to do. There are so many fun choices! I love boats. that might have been the best part. Or eating exotic fruit for breakfast every morning! I am rambling!

I’ve been to Honolulu 2x, Maui and Kauai but I’ve never been snorkeling! I love being on a beach or a boat but I hate bring in the water.

We stay in a rented condo right on Kanapali beach. Sleeping with the lanai with the glass doors from the lanai open and the waves coming in and out. It’ll never be romantic again, not like that. ♥

Excellent! After that you should do dawn and nightime! And then publish them in a coffee table book. Lol!
