On State Street, That Great Street!! – Chicago

Frank Sinatra sure loved Chicago! In fact, the song, “Chicago” references, “State Street” which is in the picture above.  I took this while on the train (what a surprise!) the other day.  I can see Frank with a drink not too far away while clicking his fingers together singing,

“On State Street that great street I just want to say

They do things that they don’t do on Broadway”

Well, I don’t know what he was referring to in those lyrics, but I promise to keep my eyes peeled for any ‘non-Broadway’ activity along State Street and report back to you!

I had to check, because I knew Frank did the song “My Kind Of Town (Chicago Is)” in “Robin and the Seven Hoods,” but didn’t know he did this one, too. You see a lot of pictures of State Street from the north end of the Loop looking south (probably because of the Chicago Theater), but very few from the south end looking north, and really the latter is a much nicer view. Great picture!

Hi John! Did you mean the other way ’round regarding the view? This shot is facing south from the north. I know what you mean about the other direction; most (me included on occasion) like to take photos from the south faci g north to see the “Chicago” sign and the “corncob” buildings. Cher xo

Great Picture. I can feel the city’s pulse from here in Canada!

Why thank you, Chris! The pulse; ah, I can explain it! You see, Chicago’s pulse is actually the collective sound of thousands of Blackhawk fans shaking the walls of the United Center desperate for a ‘do-over’ season! *LOL* Cher xo

I know some of the things they probably don’t do on Broadway… I was there for a conference… maybe 1990…. a friend and I were in a bar on State Street until 2:00am… at that point the bartender told us if we wanted to keep drinking after hours he could escort us to a “secret” room in the back where they could keep serving! Well, we did…. needless to say, the next day I was hardly capable of attending any seminars, but I had to! It was a lark and something I had to do once, I guess! Don’t recall seeing Frank though!

What an awesome story! It reminds me of the “Al Capone” days!! That is so cool!! Well, not the part where you had to attend your seminars, but it sure sounds like you had some fun on State Street!!! Ah, perhaps Frank was in yet another secret room! 😉 Thank you for sharing this very interesting story! Cher xo
