Good Monday from Chicagoland! This is a rather odd-looking thing, isn’t it? This sculpture is called, “Cloud Gate”, otherwise affectionately known as, “The Bean” to Chicagoans. “The Bean”, as it were, is a sculpture designed by British artist Anish Kapoor.

The elliptical sculpture is made from seamless, highly polished stainless steel plates, which reflect Chicago’s incredible skyline and the clouds above. A 12-foot-high arch allows visitors walk ‘beneath’ “The Bean”. You can touch the mirror-like surface and see your image reflected back.
I quite like, ‘The Bean’; in the summer there are so many ‘bean groupies’ that there is barely a space underneath to see one’s own reflection.
So I reflect to you on this Monday, a great day from Chicago, bean-style! 🙂

I visited Chicago once for business. I had planned to go and see “the bean” but on the day I had free to sight see I woke up to 2 foot of snow so I didn’t get to see much. However, I did have some really great food while I was there.

Oh no! I’m sorry you didn’t get to see “the bean”, Evelyn. Yes, the food is great here, that’s for sure! I honestly think this city has better food than anywhere else I’ve ever been! Cher xo

But that’s what you have me here for, Andy! If you knew all about Chicago, you’d said, “Meh to the Chicago Files”. 😦 But you don’t, so that’s good! *double clink of Rocky Road!* Cher xo

I like it too, Mike! It’s funny to see the ‘posing’ styles of folks! The Bean seems to bring out the ham in everyone (not yours truly, mind you; well, perhaps!) 😉 Cher xo

This is cool, Cher…every time I see The Bean I think, wouldn’t it be cool if that’s how the government was hiding a UFO that landed, just pretended it was a sculpture.
Gives new meaning to, Ooh look something Shiny! 😉
All the best.

Love it! I got some great shots of it when I was there last spring. It really is one of those unique landmarks.

I figured you must have seen the Bean, Norm! When you told me you saw the ‘door’ I thought, wow, he really covered this city! 🙂 Now, don’t forget about my, “Requesting Requests”; if there is something you’d like to suggest I write about (that you didn’t see or want more fyi, please do tell!) It is a fun sculpture. Is there a special “meaning” that the artist was trying to get across with it? (A tribute to “Mr. Bean” perhaps? lol)

*LOL* Well the artist named it, “Cloudgate”; According to Wikipedia, the reason it is called Cloudgate is: “Three-quarters of the sculpture’s external surface reflects the sky and the name refers to it acting as a type of gate that helps bridge the space between the sky and the viewer.” I think I’m sticking with, “The Bean”! 🙂 Cher xo

I’m surprised that no enterprising scrap merchants have paid a visit during the night 😉 I guess I like it both a Cloudgate and The Bean – it certainly has some wonderful skyline reflections!

*LOL* Well Martin, I daresay the thought has probably occurred to perhaps a few scrap merchants here about that very subject! *grin* Oh it truly is a unique and interesting sculpture. My only ‘complaint’ (and perhaps that is the wrong word to use) is that the crowds often disallow for good photos of the entire ‘bean’. My suggestion for those wanting brilliant photos is to go there shortly after the birds have started their day! *LOL* Cher xo
